I've been a fan of your Discardia column since you first started writing it. I'm looking forward to the daily tips - this one was great!

Abby

I don't know how faithful I would be to this blog if the tip was this tough everyday, but it was a great challenge. Since I really only develop legions of clutter in areas of my bedroom, I modified the list to suit that area:

Great stuff, Abby! Thanks for sampling me into your own excellent mix. :)

Episodes of your favorite NPR show work for this as well -- at least, This American Life worked for me this weekend!

What happens to the dust when it's in the duster? Do you shake it out outside or clean it somehow? When I was growing up, my mom refused to use dusters like that because she said they just moved dust around. I'm not happy with just using damp cloths like she did; they don't work for some items.

Thank you.

Dinah

Damp cloths can leave white marks on some wood. Take advantage of good dust cloths (I get those yellow kind in a package of several & I think they're treated with lanolin or something to help the dust stick to them).

Yes, shake them outside and when they get less effective or really grubby just throw them in the tub while you take a shower & give them a little rinse & squeeze at the end. Cleans them out very well.

What dusters - including cobweb-getters like the Webster - also can do is knock dust off furniture & corners down to the floor where you can vacuum it up.
