We're gonna be f... 2004
Run, do not walk, run to watch this clip on electronic voting from Wednesday's Daily Show with my hero, Jon Stewart. It's a lovely summary of what you need to know before casting your next ballot.

I have a feeling november is not going to be pretty. Even with a paper trail that won't solve everything. I understand that half the voters think they got screwed in 2000, but I'm afraid this year might be worse.

Interesting comment from callmejay on this MetaFilter thread http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/33098:
Why we can't just have a touch screen machine which prints out a filled-in paper ballot which can then be put into a box or rejected is beyond me. It solves most of the problems of computer systems (trust, network attacks, inability to recount) and most of the problems of paper ballots (illegibility, hanging chads, etc.)
(Yeah, what do you do when your website is hammered by nasty comment spam and you're all irked and distracted? Go surf the web for few minutes to get something else in your brain.)

Blog (noun) A weblog or similar brief journal usually containing links and commentary thereon. Term coined by Peter Merholz.
Visit Typepad or Blogger to start your own. (I began with hand coding, then switched to Blogger when it first became available, then to Movable Type when I wanted more control over my weblog and to have it hosted at a place of my choosing (Hurricane Electric). Now I use Typepad, built by the same folks who made Movable Type and I love it).
